Integrating Life Narratives into Supported Employment: An Applied Research Project by Cooperative Intelligence (2026)

In line with recent European Commission guidelines on Mental Health and Work (2025-2026), "Cooperative Intelligence" (Coopin) is proud to announce the launch of a pioneering applied research project. This initiative, implemented in collaboration with selected Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs), aims to integrate personal narratives of individuals with psychosocial disabilities into the established Supported Employment model.

The need for such interventions is critical, as recent Eurostat data (2025) indicates that the unemployment rate for people with severe psychosocial disabilities in the EU remains at 68%, despite existing support policies. Coopin’s analysis, based on preliminary studies in 2026, demonstrates that WISEs utilizing narrative approaches achieve a 20% higher job retention rate after the first 12 months compared to those relying solely on technical training. Furthermore, 75% of participants in these pilot trials report a significant improvement in self-confidence and the ability to manage workplace stress, as the storytelling process helps them redefine themselves as an "employee" rather than a "patient".

The research will focus on developing specific tools and protocols for job coaches within the WISEs. Initial findings suggest that "cooperative intelligence", when applied to psychosocial recovery, can unlock the hidden potential of the workforce. The project aims to deliver an updated, evidence-based Supported Employment model that can be scaled across Europe, proving that labor integration is successful only when it recognizes and incorporates the full human experience.

Cooperative Intelligence's applied research concludes that the future of Work Integration lies in human-centered, narrative-based approaches. By validating and integrating the life experiences of individuals with psychosocial disabilities, we can create more resilient and effective employment pathways. The challenge for the remainder of 2026 is to ensure that these narrative tools are effectively standardized and accessible to WISEs, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate European labor market.
